Financial Highlights

Despite a declining market during the year, the Foundation's managed funds increased by $50 million, reaching a record high of $624 million as of June 30, 2001. Significant increases were reflected in cash, contributions receivable and intangible assets. The increase in cash was the result of a bond issuance late in the year. The proceeds from the bonds will finance a land acquisition, and the construction of several facilities to be used in support of the University, as well as and will refinance debt related to facilities in the research park. Contributions receivable soared to $42 million by the year's end, marking an all time high. One notable pledge was for real estate, which exceeded $7 million. The rise in intangible assets was due to a $12.2 million gift of intellectual properties. from Dupont. Dupont made a similar contribution in 1998, which was valued at $23 million. Total revenues were just under $97 million were generated for the fifth year in a row, while expenditures supporting various university projects and programs topped out at $76 million. The Foundation continued to provide higher levels of support to university programs, increasing support in each of the core areas of instruction, research and public service.
